F-15B Eagle Crash Site 4/27/2020

April 27th 2020

Summery :

The McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle is an all-weather tactical fighter aircraft.
The F-15B was twin-seater trainer version, formerly designated as TF-15A.

This F-15B (#75-0085) was assigned to 433rd Fighter Wing Squadron at Nellis AFB.

On December 6, 1977, F-15B Eagle #75-0085 belonged to 433rd Fighter Wing Squadron from Nellis AFB crashed during an Air Combat Training mission.
Both crew (Lt. Col. David 'Jake' Jacobson Commander of 433 FWS, Col. William Hilton Walter III, M.D commander of the Hospital at Nellis AFB) killed.

The cause of the crash was never exactly determined.
But, it was assumed that the Hospital Commander pulled back on the stick too fast and too hard effectively snowplowing into the side of a mountain.
Both pilots ejected but hit the mountain before the chutes deployed.
Because of this crash the Air Force made a policy that never would two Commanders be on the same plane at the same time.

----------------------------------------------

Crash site has lots of small wrecks...about hand size, and no larger than 2 ft long.
The impact crater is still visible on the side of hill, but I couldn't find 2 of ejection seat crater on the other side of hill top.
Most of the wrecks were spread within 7-800 ft from the impact site.
Since it happened over 40 years ago, the rain washed down some wrecks and I could find those on the dry wash more than 1 mile from the crash site.
