Since I have moved to Las Vegas about 7 years ago, Nellis Airshow is my annual event. And there is no exception this year too. Last year I climbed Sunrise Mountain and watched the airshow from there. It was a great to see those airplane from different angle. Usually, we look over the sky to watch the flying airplane. But, from the Sunrise Mtn., I look down to watch the flying airplane. This is a big differences, because most of old pics from another airshow's back ground was sky and its only blue. And you can't tell how they are flying (upside down, low altitude, going up etc...) from those pictures. But, since I'm looking down those airplane, the background is actual Ground (Houses and Mountains)! That means you can tell how those airplanes flying. James and I had decided to go together this year. He likes those militaly machines also great hiker to hike with. On the way to the view point, we had decided to take another way up. And found very good ridge to watch the show. We had enough time, so we climbed Sunrise Mtn. first then come back to that ridge. This place was better than last year's one. Its much closer to the base. From last years experiences, I brought sleeping pad, blanket and cooking stove to make a hot coffee. Even though it was bit chilly since it was windy. After few hours of staying same spot, I found much better spot only 15 ft from there. Somehow that spot doesn't get wind and way warmer. Near the end of the show, the Thunderbirds flew right over us twice!! |
